Description
The purpose of the calculations described in this paper was to estimate the doses inside the machine for three different assumed levels of neutron production and to examine the change in the dose to workers as components are removed. As they are removed, the dose is expected to be reduced but some of this material also acts as shielding to the gamma rays emanating from the vacuum vessel behind them. Calculations are necessary to determine if the removal of items results in a decrease or increase in the expected dose. The first and third steps are accomplished using the Monte Carlo code MCNP. The activation calculations are carried out using FISPACT. (authors)
