Description

137Cs activity concentrations in wild mushrooms (mostly cantharellus cibarius ) were investigated in the Koralpe, Austria in summer 2006. They indicate that the limit of the European Union of 600 Bq/kg fresh matter is being exceeded in almost half of the 29 cantharellus cibarius samples (with a maximum value of 25.7 kBq/kg dry matter), while the activity concentration in boletus edulis (six samples) was found to be slightly above the limit only in one case. Within the investigated region areas with different levels of activity concentrations in mushrooms could be identified. These areas roughly correlate with the pattern of varying soil contamination in this region. But the spatial variability of the activity concentration in mushrooms can be considerable even over a scale of 1 km. (author)
