Design and construction status of the fuel processing facility
Creators
Description
A new facility is being designed and built at the Idaho Chemical Processing Plant (ICPP) at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) near Idaho Falls, Idaho. The new facility, the Fuel Processing Facility (FPF), will replace existing ICPP facilities that have been in operation for almost 35 yr. The new facility will include three cycles of uranium extraction, product denitration and product storage, along with the necessary support equipment, systems, and facilities to provide a fully acceptable uranium extraction facility. The FPF design is presently ∼40% complete. Site preparation and excavation are also complete. Selected long-lead procurement is in progress. Construction is scheduled to be completed in December 1992 with hot operation in December 1994
