An epidemiological study of the late effects of therapeutic irradiation
Creators
Description
The late effect of therapeutic irradiation for non-malignant diseases was investigated by examining records of patients from the Birmingham area treated by external irradiation for benign gynaecological conditions or by internal irradiation (131I) for thyrotoxicosis. The numbers of cancers developing at different sites and the number of deaths occurring from specific causes was compared to the number expected in a population of a similar age and sex distribution.
