Attenuation correction for SPECT of regional brain perfusion using 99mTc-HMPAO
- 1. Showa Univ. Fujigaoka Hospital, Yokohama (Japan)
Description
Attenuation correction for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) of regional brain perfusion is investigated by simulation study. 99mTc-HMPAO has a tendency to accumulate on not only brain but also on scalp. Therefore, the distribution of skull is simultaneously obtained in SPECT study without transmission CT study. Using the distribution of skull, an observed projection with nonuniform attenuators including soft tissue and skull is approximately transformed to the projection with soft tissue alone. Then, conventional attenuation correction method assuming uniform attenuation is applied to the transformed projection. The accuracy of reconstructed density by this method is evaluated. (author)
