Description

This paper introduces a new electrochemical technique which can detect and image surface fatigue cracks in metals in a very simple manner. It is based on 2 factors: the rupture of surface oxide films during fatigue of the substrate metal and a modified version of a printing technique developed for the study of defective sites of high electrical conductivity in anodic oxide films. The technique is illustrated in this report by an image of a fatigue crack in 7075-T6 aluminium
