Ventilation conditions and atmospheric characteristics of a laboratory uranium mine. Application to the distribution of radioactive particles in the respiratory tract
Description
The CEA laboratory uranium mine and the characteristics of its ventilation are described. A method of measuring air flows based on the determination of a tracer gas was developed. Variations of radon concentrations and of its daughter products concentrations and radioactive equilibrium were observed as a function of the various ventilation rates. Particle size distribution of radioactive aerosols was studied in the laboratory mine when unoperated. Several methods of evaluation of the free fraction were compared, and the application of the laws of aerosol physics to the production of radioactive aerosols in a mine was investigated. A study of radioactive ions showed that the usual equations of atmospheric electricity could be applied to charged radioactive aerosols in a mine. Finally an experimental method was developed in order to directly examine the deposit of an aerosol labelled by radon daughter products in the respiratory tract of animals. The experimental results obtained with aerosols in the particle size range 5.10-8 - 5.10-6 were compared to the theoretical data derived from models published in the literature

Dans une premiere partie, on decrit la mine d'uranium laboratoire du CEA et les caracteristiques de son aerage. On decrit l'utilisation d'une methode de mesure des debits d'air basee sur le dosage d'un gaz traceur. Les variations de la concentration du radon, de la concentration et de l'etat d'equilibre radioactif de ce descendant en fonction des differents regimes d'aerage sont etudies dans une seconde partie. On met en evidence les qualites de l'aerage en surpression. La troisieme partie est consacree a l'etude de la repartition granulometrique de l'aerosol radioactif en mine laboratoire hors exploitation. On compare diverses methodes d'evaluation de la fraction libre. On examine dans quelle mesure les lois classiques de la physique des aerosols s'appliquent a la formation des aerosols radioactifs dans une mine. Les ions radioactifs sont etudies dans la quatrieme partie de ce travail. On montre que les equations classiques de l'electricite atmospherique sont applicables a l'aerosol radioactif charge dans une mine. Pour la cinquieme partie, on propose une methode experimentale permettant d'examiner directement dans l'arbre respiratoire d'un animal le depot d'un aerosol marque par les descendants du radon. On compare les resultats obtenus experimentalement pour des aerosols de rayon compris entre 5.10-8cm et 5.10-6cm aux resultats theoriques decoulant des modeles publies dans la litteratureFiles
