Comparative efficacy of various methods of preoperative irradiation in combined treatment of gastric cancer
Creators
Description
The results of treatment of 344 patients with gastric cancer, mainly stage 3, are analyzed. Multiple modality treatment with preoperative irradiation administered by three different methods was carried out in 273 of them. Preoperative irradiation did not increase the incidence of postoperative complications. All the three schemes of dose fractionation were similarly tolerated by the patients. The author claims that irradiation by dynamic dosefractionation scheme, particularly in combination with metronidasole radiosensitization, is preferable to irradiation by intensive concentrated method as far as the degree of radiation pathomorphism and three-year survival are concerned
