Commercializing the next generation of nuclear power plants

Creators

Description

This paper addresses Westinghouse's efforts in commercializing the next generation of nuclear plants. The author identifies a one-step licensing process, safe and secure radioactive waste storage facilities in operation, and predictable and stable handling of permitting and financial matters by state regulators as prerequisites that must be fulfilled before restoration of the nuclear option. The topics of the paper include, in addition to those above, the standardization of nuclear plant design, the French example in standardization, the benefits of a standard nuclear plant design, financing and ownership of nuclear plants, and improving the performance of the nuclear plants now in operation
