Grain growth kinetics and microstructures in nominally stoichiometric Y1Ba2Cu3O7-δ

Description

The isothermal grain growth and microstructural evolution of Y1Ba2Cu3O7-δ ceramics has been investigated at different sintering temperatures and for two different particle size distributions. Final densities of most samples are over 95% of theoretical density. The grain growth exponent n is found to be about 0.21 for both particle size distributions. The activation energy of 125.58 KJ/mole was calculated. The grain aspect ratios do not change during coarsening. Bimodal samples are found to accelerate grain growth without a change of mechanism of exponent. Critical currents ranged from 10 to 120 A/cm2. The implications are discussed
