Description

Detailed investigations are made of orientational luminescent characteristics of YAlO3-Nd3+ laser crystals. Anisotropy of the spatial distribution of the intermanifold luminescence intensity due to 4Fsub(3/2) → 4Isub(9/2-15/2) channels is observed and its theoretical interpretation is given. The intermanifold and the 'Stark' luminescence branching ratios, the peaks, and the effective cross-sections of the transitions are determined for the three crystallographic directions a, b, and c of the crystal at 77 and 300 K. The probabilities of spontaneous transitions and a number of some other spectroscopic parameters are also measured. On the base of obtained data the question of using the Judd-Ofelt treatment for the analysis of spectral properties of anisotropic crystals doped with TR3+ ions is discussed. (author)
