The monocline - tetragonal transition of ZrO2 in the ZrO2-Fe2O3 system

Description
The effect of Fe2O3 on monocline-tetragonal transition of ZrO2 was investigated by Differential Thermal (DTA) and X-ray Analyses. Small additions of Fe2O3 (1 mol %) increases the Hysteresis gap. Additions of 10 to 98 mol % of Fe2O3 increases the monocline tetragonal transition interval of ZrO2 due to the Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions solubility in ZrO2 matrix. (author)

O efeito do Fe2O3 na transformacao monoclinica - tetragonal do ZrO2 foi investigada atraves das analises termica diferencial (ATD) e de difratometria de Raios-X a temperaturas de ate 1673 K. Observou-se que pequenas adicoes de Fe2O3 (1 mol %) aumentam o efeito de histerese do ZrO2 e que adicoes de 10 a 98 mol % de Fe2O3 ampliam o intervalo de transformacao mon-> tet do ZrO2 conferido pela existencia de uma certa solubilidade dos ions Fe2+ e Fe3+ na matriz ZrO2.
