Determination of Sr and its impurities in solution from a pilot purification plant

Description

Solutions of the pilot plant for the purification of strontium PICPUS contain alkaline earth elements and silver. This study defines the analytical control of the chemical process. It is divided into three parts : 1) the utilization of a cationic resin chromatographie separation for solutions containing similar concentrations of alkaline earths and silver : the selective elution of the constituents is made using ammonium malonate with a concentration gradient. The precipitation of silver malonate is avoided by forming a soluble anionic complex with the silver. Determinations are performed on the recovered fractions using a conductometric method applicable to very dilute solutions ; 2) the radiochemical determination of 90Sr is effected using a liquid scingbllator. The method used to perform determinations in the presence of 90Y involves the plotting of two curves: variation of the 90Y contribution factor and yield, as a function of quenching. This method is compared to that using the chemical separation of 90Y; 3) in the case of strontium rich solutions containing alkaline earths and silver in the impurity state, investigations were carried out using spectrographie emission and the Breckpot method. A statistical method was used to verify the calibration curves for magnesium, calcium, and barium. (author)

Abstract (French)

(author)
