The preliminary suggestion for RBMK-1500 spent nuclear fuel disposal technology
Description
In this article the technology for disposal of Lithuanian RBMK-1500 spent nuclear fuel SNF is described. This technology was suggested on the basis of the existing experience in other countries and taking into account the specific features of RBMK-1500 SNF. Copper canisters of about one meter diameter, about 4 meter length and 50 mm wall thickness with the cast iron inserts where 32 SNF bundles are placed, are disposed of in geological repository at depth of about 500 m.
