Prompt fission neutron spectra

  • 1. Los Alamos Scientific Lab., NM

Description

Recent measurements of the spectra of prompt neutrons emitted from neutron-induced fission in 235U and 239Pu are reviewed. Results are discussed in terms of departures of the data from a simple Watt representation. An evaluation of the neutron spectrum from neutron-induced fission in 235U and spontaneous fission in 252Cf, made by NBS in 1975, is also reviewed. Recent measurements on the fission spectra of 235U and 239Pu seem to indicate a harder energy spectrum than indicated by the earlier data available for the NBS evaluation. Posible reasons for this trend in the experimental data are discussed. 7 figures, 1 table
