Monitoring of carbon in sodium
- 1. Reactor Research Centre, Kalpakkam (India)
- 2. Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe G.m.b.H. (Germany, F.R.)
Description
The Harwell carbon meter has been tested in the very pure sodium of the CREVONA loop. At 550 C the measured carbon activity is about 2.5 x 10-3 in fair agreement with foil equilibration measurements. The carbon activity depends on the cold trap temperature. An electrochemical carbon meter with sodium and lithium carbonate electrolyte and graphite as reference electrode material gives a stable emf, directly related to the carbon activity by the Nernst equation. The testing of such an electrochemical cell is foreseen in the same sodium loop. (author)
