Estimation of the Curie content and dose rate of calandria shell (SS304L) using ORIGEN2

Description
Estimation of the Curie content and the identification of radionuclides formed due to the neutron irradiation of the SS304L material used in calandria shell construction was carried out using the ORIGEN2 code. The calandria shell material is subjected to continuous irradiation by neutrons from the reactor core. The specific activity estimation following 10 years of irradiation for two cases of thermal flux 1 E12 n/cm2/sec and 1 E13 n/cm2/sec was carried out. The activity was used to estimate the dose rates at various distances per unit mass of the calandria material using the gamma ray shielding code GUI2QAD. This was necessary to find the shielding requirements during the proposed sparger channel installation in MAPS-2. The material composition of the SS 304L: C-0.03%, S-0.05%, P-0.045%, Si-1%, Mn-2%, Cr-19%, Ni-9.5%, Fe-66.375%. (author)
