Multistage ICR studies of slow processes for ions: application to radiative lifetime measurements

  • 1. Laboratoire de Physico-Chimie des Rayonnements bat. 350, Univ. Paris-Sud, 91405 Orsay (France)

Description

The measurement of long lifetimes by spectroscopic methods is described. The method has been put into practice with two specially constructed instruments, the Tricyclotron and ELIPSE, based on magnetic ion traps and utilizing the ion cyclotron resonance technique. For example the charge transfer reaction HBr+ + O2 → O2+ + HBr has been investigated. An important isotope effect has been observed for the vibrational transition and no isotope effect for the spin-orbit transition. (Suda)
