Aspects of transfer reactions between heavy ions

A summary is given of improvements in the theoretical treatment of transfers of nucleons between heavy ions. Concentration is given to the energy regions that straddle the Coulomb barrier where much of the experiments have been performed. Some discussion is given to quantum diffraction aspects of elastic scattering and to their implications on transfer reactions. (author)
