Description
This paper discusses an application of 'societal risk' to nuclear reactor licensing in the UK, and proposes an appropriate measure for use in the assessment of future reactor designs which can be understood and used by reactor vendors and utility safety assessors alike. The measure proposed is developed for assessment purposes only and does not purport to represent a boundary of safety, not to set a regulatory level. (J.P.N.)
