Digital subtraction angiography of the pelvic veins
Description
Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is an established technique for detecting arterial diseases by transvenous or direct arterial application of contrast media. The present study intends to underline the importance of venous DSA in the diagnosis of diseases of the pelvic veins. In the 35 patients investigated, excellent contrast images of the pelvic region were obtained with peripheral injection of non-ionic contrast media with iodine concentrations no hihger than 200 mg/ml. Venous DSA of the pelvic region is recommended especially for patients with occlusive or varicose diseases of the veins of the legs, where conventional procedures usually fail. (orig/WU)
Abstract (German)
Die digitale Subtraktionsangiographie (DSA) hat sich als Verfahren zur Darstellung arterieller Gefaesserkrankungen mittels transvenoeser oder direkter arterieller Kontrastmittelapplikationen bereits etabliert. Ziel dieser Studie ist, die Bedeutung der venoesen DSA in der Diagnostik von Beckenvenenerkrankungen herauszustellen. Die Resultate an 35 untersuchten Patienten zeigen, dass mit Hilfe peripherer Injektion von nicht-ionischem Kontrastmittel mit einem Jodgehalt von nur 200 mg/ml eine ausgezeichnete Kontrastierung der Beckenetage ohne Nachweis von Komplikationen zu erreichen ist. Besonders geeignet erscheint die venoese Becken-DSA bei Patienten mit vorgeschalteten okklusiven oder varikoesen Beinvenenerkrankungen, da hier die konventionelle Methode in der Regel versagt.
