Energy distributions for charmed hadrons in the QCD cluster model for e+e- annihilation
Description
Predictions of the QCD cluster model for charm production in high energy e+e- annihilation are presented. Details of the model relevant for heavy flavor production are discussed. The model is shown to describe well the shape of the recently measured z-distribution for charged Dsup(*) production at Q=29 GeV. Reported rates for Dsup(*) production at CESR, PEP,and PETRA are found to be inexplicably high. Substantial Λsub(c) production is predicted, with the ratio N(Λsub(c))/N(Dsup(*)) found to be roughly flat in z for z> or approx.0.5 at high energies. It is argued that the results presented here are rather general predictions of models in which color is locally screened before hadrons actually form. (orig.)
