Experiments driving theory: Gravitational wave detection and the two body problem in general relativity

Description
Over the last two decades, the search for gravitational waves from coalescing compact binaries by detectors like LIGO and Virgo has crucially required and consequently spurred tremendous progress in the two body problem in general relativity. A broad brush overview of these major developments and the current status of these significant results is presented. (paper)
