Structure and phase composition of specimens of Nb - C system

Description

To specify the conditions of formation of Nb4C3 as well as the structure and phase composition of materials on the niobium carbide base composition specimens from NbCsub(0.58) to NbCsub(0.98) have been investigated. The investigation of the phase composition and material structure of the Nb-C system upon hot pressing has shown that in the relations range with C/Nb=0.67-0.92 the specimens are single phase and represent NbCsub(x); at C/Nb=0.94-0.98 along with NbCsub(x) a low quantity of metallic niobium is observed: in the material with C/Nb=0.58 Nb2C is a dominating phase. At high pressures and temperatures in case of specimens with C/Nb=0.67-0.76 a low quantity of Nb4C3 appears, the structural characteristics of which are close to analogous data for Ta4C3
