Description
The kinetics of uptake and release of radionuclides 137Cs, 131I, 133Ba, 51Cr (III and VI), 60Co and 65Zn in the 'cnidaria' Bunodosoma caissarum have been studied. This is an exclusively Brazilian species and easily collected on the Rio de Janeiro coastal waters. The kinetic experiments have been made in aquariums of 1000 cm3, in laboratory under controlled conditions and accompanied by single channel radiometry. The velocities of concentration were evident to radionuclides 131I and 133Ba. The larger concentration factors were registred to 51Cr (III), 65Zn and 51Cr (VI), with middle values of 20,0 , 14,5 and 8,6 respectively. The same radionuclides stood out in the loss experiments, presenting the following biological half-lives : 292,2 h (51Cr-III), 784,0 h (51Cr-VI) and 823,0 h (65Zn). This expressive value for the 65Zn suggests a probable biological integration of this radionuclide by the species studied. The results allow us to indicate the 'anthozoa' Bunodosoma caissarum as a bioindicator of the radioactive contamination of the marine environment. (Author)

(Autor)Files
