Early running experience with the CLEO vertex detector
Description
A small high precision cylindrical drift chamber has been built and installed in the CLEO experiment at the CESR. The vertex detector consists of 10 concentric layers of wires (a total of 800 sense wires) which measure the R-PHI coordinates using timing, and the Z coordinate using charge division. In addition a precise measurement of Z is made using cathode strips located on the inner and outer walls of the chamber. The design and construction of the device is reviewed, and initial results on its performance presented
