Latitudinal distribution of 85Kr in the near-ground atmosphere (results of the expeditions on the research ship ''Academician Kurchatov'' in the Atlantic ocean in 1970-1973)

Description

Methods are described and results are summed up to the determination of the concentration of Kr-85 in the near-ground layer of the atmospheric air over the water area of the Atlantic Ocean in the range of latitudes from 60 deg S.L. to 54 deg N.L. Samples were taken in 1970-1973. The irregularity of the distrbution of concentrations between hemispheres was found out. The maximum concentration of krypton in the Northern hemisphere is higher than the minimum Kr concentration in the Southern hemisphere by 1.6 times. Theoretical calculations based on the half-empirical turbulent diffusion theory show that the latitude distribution of Kr85 significantly depends on the averaged value of the turbulent diffusion coefficient ERROR in the region of the equator. The most probable correlation of calculation and experimental data was obtained for ERROR=2x105 m2/sec. It is found that at the present time the contribution of the nuclear energetics to the Kr8H5 concentration in the atmospere is insignificant
