Selective properties of hydroxy group containing cationites

  • 1. Leningradskij Tekhnologicheskij Inst. (USSR)

Description

A study was made on the effect of hydroxy group nature in cationites of various composition (KU-1, KU-51x5, KFUKh, vofatit c) on their selectice properties with respect to alkali metal ions. Alakali metal analysis was conducted by radiometric method and the method of flame photometry. The data of infrared spectroscopy were also used for investigations. Dependences of separation factors on the value of solution pH are presented. It was established that the elevated affinity to Rb and Cs ions is manifested by cationites compoused of unsubstituted phenol molecules. Introduction of sulfonic groups, chlorine and other substitue into phenol benzene ring decreases hydroxy group selectivity. It is shown that Rb and Cs ions are absorbed mainly by phenol groups during sorption from alkaline solutions
