Geochemical study of trace elements in series of volcanic rocks from Aeolian islands: petrogenetic implications

Description

This research thesis belongs to the fields of geochemistry of trace elements, quantitative modelling of petrological processes, definition of geochemical criteria between the evolution of petrological processes and the main structural features of the lithosphere and its geo-dynamics, and the adaptation and promotion of analytical tools (such as radiochemical activation analysis). The objective was first to assess to which extent previous results regarding the interest of hydro-magmatophilic elements for the simplification of the analysis of the behaviour of elements during magmatic processes and of their modelling, could be applied to other forms of volcanism. Another objective was to determine geochemical criteria which could be deduced from this approach, and could be useful to obtain petrological and geo-dynamic information about the Aeolian arch. Thus, the author presents the geographical and geological context (tectonic and structure, volcanism, petrological nature of rocks of the different Aeolian islands, reports a geochemical study (problem of the geochemical study of volcanism, identification and properties of hydro-magmatophilic elements and petrogenetic implications, results obtained on different sites). A chapter is devoted to activation analysis, sample preparation, irradiation by epithermal neutrons, etc
