Examples of simulation codes applied to the metal-pyroprocess
Description
In pyrometallurgical reprocessing process in which, after anodically electrorefining spent nuclear fuels in molten salts, uranium is deposited on the solid cathode, uranium and plutonium are deposited on liquid cadmium cathode. This technique has been developed experimentally at ANL and also in Japan, while evaluation study on the analysis of the experimental results obtained and design study on the electrolysis vessel have not yet been made enough progress. For example, elemental fractions contributing to the electric current and polarization distribution on the electrode surface will be required to understand theoretically electro-refining process. The present paper includes compilation of evaluation results using simulation codes on the metallurgical electrorefining process data from ANL and Japan hitherto reported. Applicability of the simulation codes will be discussed. (S. Ohno)
