A physical evaluation of three pinhole tomography

  • 1. Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden Hospital, Sutton (U.K.)

Description

In this paper a physical evaluation of a technique for three pinhole tomography (3PT) developed for use with a gamma camera with linked digital computer is presented. This longitudinal tomographic imaging modality is particularly suitable for large organ imaging in oncology. The particular difficulties of producing longitudinal tomographic images with the technique are discussed in detail with particular reference to the geometric corrections required to produce quantitative images. Illustrative data obtained using a prototype three pinhole collimator attached to a small field of view (F O V) gamma camera are presented and improvements that may be made to the technique are suggested
