Self-dual Euclidean gauge fields for semisimple groups

Description
A Lie algebraic study of the slef-dual gauge fields with arbitrary semisimple gauge group in Euclidean space is carried out, generalizing Yang's R gauge to an Iwasawa decomposition of the gauge group. Backlund transformations are derived as automorphisms of the gauge Lie algebra and all the nonequivalent ones are identified. The Pontryagin density is shown to possess an additivity property under such transformations. The constructions are illustrated for SU(2) and SU(3) gauge fields
