Description

The Rod insertion method consist of rod worth measurements while the rod is being inserted into the reactor core, with high speed and without any reactivity compensation. From the tests performed in Angra-1, it was concluded that the neutronic flux signal processed by the ratemeter needed a correction to compensate for space-flux redistribution as detected by Nuclear Ex core Instrumentation. Taking into account this correction, all measured rod worth fall within the acceptance criteria, and for this reason, this new approach can substitute the traditional boration/dilution method with great economical, advantages, such as generating less radioactive waste and more safety.
