Magnetic structure of Tb-Fe films, prepared by electron-beam evaporation

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev (Ukraine). Inst. Metallofiziki

Description

Magnetic properties and 57 Fe Moessbauer spectra in amorphous Tb-Fe were measured in the temperature range 300 - 500 K. The films were prepared by electron-beam co-evaporation. Interaction of nonspherical Tb ion with neighbouring ions resulted in a small angle between the film normal and direction of Hhf. The Moessbauer spectra demonstrated that the films consisted of three ''magnetic phases'': paramagnetic Fe, ferrimagnetic Tb Fe with Hhf = 100-200 kOe and α-Fe with Hhf=333 kOe. The Fe magnetic moment was not associated with the charge transfer from Tb to Fe. It was due to hybridization of 5 d Tb-and 3 d Fe-electrons
