Computer tomography and diagnosis of diseases of the salivary gland

Description

A comparative study was made of the diagnostic value of sialography and sialo-CT in 36 patients with diseases of the parotid and submandibular region. Apart from tumours, which are the main indication, also inflammatory diseases of the salivary glands are considered. Computerized sialography (CTS) as a rule confirms the diagnosis of conventional sialography but may yield additional information. Imaging of the deep parotid lobe and of the parapharyngeal space ('3rd level') is of utmost importance in diagnosis and in therapy planning. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Es werden Vergleichsuntersuchungen zwischen der Sialographie und der Sialo-CT vorgelegt und die Ergebnisse von 36 Patienten mit Erkrankungen der Parotis- und Submandibularisregion beschrieben. Neben Geschwulsterkrankungen, die als Hauptindikation zu gelten haben, werden auch entzuendliche Speicheldruesenerkrankungen beruecksichtigt. Die computertomographische Sialographie (CTS) bestaetigt in der Regel die Diagnose der konventionellen Sialographie, kann sie aber haeufig wesentlich ergaenzen. Die bildliche Darstellung des tiefen Parotislappens und des Parapharyngealraumes (sog. 3. Ebene) ist von grosser Bedeutung fuer die Diagnostik und die Therapieplanung. (orig.)
