This paper presents from a pedagogical point of view, the treatment of the unphysical singularities appearing in the point-like contribution of the photon structure function, F/sup γ//sub 2/(x,Q/sup 2/). The treatment, based on the parametrization of a singular term, is compared with various other approaches. The authors estimate the magnitude of higher order corrections
