Description
Globally, the burden of new cancer cases in 1995 had been estimated to be 9.0 million cases, with 52% occurring in developing countries. The WHO projection for the year 2015 points to an increase to almost 15 million, of which two thirds will be seen in the developing countries, with access to only five percent of the global resources. From the latest report it is noted that cancer of the lung is the leading cancer site in males in Mumbai, Delhi and Bhopal Population Based Cancer Registries [age adjusted rates (AAR) varying from 14.6 to 11.9 per 100,000 males]. In females, cancer of the uterine cervix heads the list in the rural and all other urban registries, except in the greater metropolitan areas. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in all registries except Mumbai and Bangalore where it is the leading cancer site. The management of cancer is primarily by multidisciplinary approaches
