Local structure analysis of DLC films using soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy

Description

We measured C K-edge X-ray absorption near edge structure of DLC films with different fabrication conditions to investigate the relationship between fabrication conditions and local structure. By applying the method of calculating the ratio of sp2 and sp3 carbons from the π*/ σ* peak intensity ratio of C K-edge XANES, it was possible to quantitatively evaluate the ratio of sp2 carbons in DLC. The ratio of sp2 carbon determined by this method agreed well with the ratio of sp2 carbon determined by refractive index. In addition, the relationship between the width of the π* peak and the graphitic layer size was discussed quantitatively by taking the difference spectrum with HOPG. From the comparison between the measured and calculated XANES spectra of graphitic layer models, it was found that the graphitic layer size was smaller for O-DLC and Ar-DLC, whose surfaces were roughened with oxygen or argon after film formation, than for other DLC. It was also found that the peaks found in H-DLC prepared by adding hydrogen during film formation were attributed to peaks derived from sp3 carbons, such as alkane molecules, which is consistent with the results of other methods that H-DLC contains more polymer-like components than others. Abstract (Japanese)

製造条件の異なるダイヤモンドライクカーボン(DLC)膜について,製造条件と局所構造の関係性を調べるため,C K端X線吸収微細構造(XANES)測定を実施した.C K端XANESのπ**ピーク強度比からsp2炭素とsp3炭素の割合を算出する手法を適用することで,DLC中のsp2炭素の割合を定量的に評価した.この手法で求めたsp2炭素の割合は,屈折率から評価したsp2炭素の割合とよく一致した.さらに,高配向性熱分解黒鉛(HOPG)との差スペクトルをとることでπ*ピー クの幅とsp2炭素網面のサイズの関係を定量的に議論した.XANESの実験スペクトルと計算スペクトルの比較から,製膜後に酸素やアルゴンで表面を荒らしたO-DLCやAr-DLCでは,他のDLCに比べsp2炭素網面のサイズが小さくなっていることが示唆された.また,製膜時に水素を混合させて作製したH-DLCに見られる特徴的なピークが,アルカン分子のようなsp3炭素由来のピークに帰属されることが分かり,これはH-DLCにはポリマーライクな成分が多く含まれているという他手法の結果と一致した.(著者)
