The application of proton-induced X-ray emission to bioenvironmental analyses

Description
For several years a proton-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) analysis system has been under development in the 4 MeV Van de Graaff laboratory of TUNL. The present paper reports a few examples of current studies ultilizing the multielement analytical capabilities of the system. Specifically, the emphasis here is on analyses of plants and soils, marine life and animal tissues, and human lungs. The results are used as an indicator of the potential of PIXE analyses. (Auth.)
