Description
Nuclear-medical examinations should be applied only in those cases where they can be expected to provide genuine advantages over other methods and to benefit the patient above all. This requires nuclear medicine to abandon overestimation and excessive admiration of all things purely technological and to be prepared to contribute its share in the responsibility for the patient by means of interdisplinary collaboration with doctors working both in clinics and as practitioners. Particular thought should always be given to the protection of staff and patients from radiation exposure. Biochemical processes are the very base of life; hence, nuclear medicine will continue to have a promising future by investigating dysfunctions of biochemical metabolic processes using radiolabelled substances. Abstract (German)
Nuklearmedizinische Untersuchungen sollten nur da Anwendung finden, wo sie gegenueber anderen Verfahren wirkliche Vorteile bieten und vor allem dem Patienten nuetzen. Hierfuer muss sich die Nuklearmedizin von der Ueberbewertung des rein Technischen loesen und in interdisziplinaerer Zusammenarbeit mit klinisch sowie praktisch taetigen Aerzten ihren Teil an der Verantwortung fuer den Kranken zu tragen bereit sein. Hierbei sollte auch immer der Strahlenschutz von Personal und Patienten besondere Beruecksichtigung finden. Da die Biochemie Basis allen Lebens ist, wird die Nuklearmedizin durch die Untersuchung gestoerter biochemischer Stoffwechselvorgaenge mit Hilfe radioaktiv markierter Substanzen immer eine grosse Zukunft haben.
