Description

The spin-dependence of high energy pp elastic scattering is related to a number of critical features of small angle differential cross section spin asymmetries and total cross section spin differences. A previous investigation of the hadronic spin-flip amplitude contribution to this asymmetry in the low momentum transfer region (0.6 ≤ |t| (GeV/c)2) at 200 GeV/c is extended to include an examination of all non-vanishing hadronic helicity amplitudes near the forward direction. This study was motivated by a recently announced value at 200 GeV/c of the longitudinal total cross section difference ΔσL. (author)
