Martensite formation by relaxation of hydrostatic pressure

Description
According to thermodynamics it should be possible to produce martensite by austenitizing a steel under high hydrostatic pressure and then releasing the pressure at a suitable temperature. Such martensite was produced experimentally as could be demonstrated by observing the resulting heat of reaction. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Nach thermodynamischen Ueberlegungen sollte man Martensit erzeugen koennen, indem man einen Stahl unter hohem hydrostatischen Druck austenitisiert und dann bei geeigneter Temperatur den Druck abfallen laesst. Solcher Martensit wurde experimentell erzeugt und durch die Waermetoenung der Reaktion nachgewiesen. (orig.)Additional details
