Search for soft phonon modes in Zr2Ni
- 1. Ames Laboratory: USDOE and Departments of Physics and Materials Science and Engineering, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa 50011
Description
Inelastic neutron-scattering measurements have been made on a [zeta00] transverse acoustic phonon branch of Zr2Ni at several temperatures between 300 and 10 K. The experiment was motivated by previous ultrasonic results which showed a large softening of the related elastic constant C66. No phonon softening was observed in our experiment, but a fairly unusual dispersion was noted
