TPE-1RM15 Reversed Field Pinch experiment-design and construction

  • 1. Electrotechnical Lab., Tsukuba, Ibaraki (Japan)

Description

TPE-1RM15 is a moderate scale Reversed Field Pinch apparatus (R/a = 0.7 m/0.135 m, Ip∼250 kA), constructed at ETL as a successor of TPE-1RM. Main target of 1RM15 experiment is to improve plasma parameters such as electron temperature, energy confinement time etc. in high current density (∼5 MA/m2) region in which TPE-1RM has been operated. The following things are taken into consideration in design and construction of apparatus to realize above target. One is the reduction of error field origined from the currents flowing in coils, supporting structure and floor. The other is equilibrium control of plasma by metal shell and DC vertical field to reduce impurity effect. In this report design, construction and test of apparatus are described. (author)
