Long-Range pipe inspection technology using guided wave

  • 1. Korea Electric Power Research Institute Power Generation Laboratory, Daejeon (Korea, Republic of)

Description

Power Plant has tens of thousands of welded parts in its pipe structures, the quality on the welded parts are always a key factor for ensuring the reliability of the structures. There are too many size of pipes which is located high position and insulated. If we use traditional Ultrasonic method, The pipe insulation should be eliminated and the scarf-fold should be established for high position pipe inspection. And it takes too much time and needs too much cost. If guided wave test method is applicable to the inspection of welded structures in power plants, We can have benefits of great time and cost saving comparing to the classical Ultrasonic test. For this guided wave test, We must use transducer according to the pipe outside diameters.
