Spectrophotometric determination of uranium and thorium with arsenazo III in the flow injection system
Description
A simple system for flow injection analysis (FIA) with double confluence was built using a filter photocolorimeter, an analogic potentiometer, 'plexiglass' flow cuvettes, polyethylene colls and tubes, 'plexiglass' commuter and peristaltic pump to introduce solutions and gravity as flow source. The system was dimensioned and studied using only Arsenazo III solutions. Spectrophotometric methods for uranium and thorium using Arsenazo III were studied using a scanning spectrophotometer and after chosing adequate red filter, adapted to photocolorimetry using flow cuvettes and FIA. Synthetic samples, phosphate rock, and process samples from uranium recovery of dolomites were analysed. Rocks of Morro do Ferro (MG, Brazil), Caldasite (Baddeleyte + Zirconite), Zirconite, Monazite from a program for certification and certified rocks (Dunite DC-1, CANMET) were analysed without chemical separation of Th (IV) and with ion exchange separation in semi-micro columns of cation exchange resin (Dowex 50). Um sistema simples de analise por injecao em fluxo (AIF) com dupla confluencia foi montado com fotocolorimetro de filtros, com cubeta de acrilico, geracao de fluxo por gravidade, bobinas de polietileno, bomba peristaltica, comutador de acrilico para a injecao de solucoes e registrador analogico. O sistema foi dimensionado e os parametros de operacao estudados usando-se somente solucoes de Arsenazo III. Os metodos espectrofotometricos para uranila e torio com Arsenazo III foram estudados usando-se um espectrofotometro de varredura de alta resolucao e depois da escolha do filtro vermelho adequado os metodos foram adaptados para a fotocolorimetria com cubeta de fluxo e AIF. Foram analisadas amostras sinteticas, solucoes de processo de recuperacao de uranio de dolomita, e rocha fosfatica. Foram analisadas amostras de rochas do Morro do Ferro, diversas amostras em processo de certificacao (Zirconita, Caldasita, Monazita) bem como amostra certificada (Dunita DC-1, CANMET) sem separacao de torio ou com separacao em colunas em escala micro ou semi-micro de resina cationica (Dowex 50).
