Hysteresis in the Nb-V-H system

Description
Studies of pressure-composition hysteresis in the Nb-V alloy hydrogen system revealed that the extent of hysteresis depends dramatically on the alloy composition. The hysteresis for the Nb-H system was greater by a factor of 4 than that for the V-H system. Also, a hysteresis maximum was observed at about 80% Nb with the absorption-to-desorption pressure ratio exceeding 20. A slight decrease in hysteresis effect was observed with increasing temperature. These results are discussed in terms of existing theories of hysteresis. (Auth.)
