  • 1. Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Oak Ridge, TN (United States)
  • 2. Idaho National Laboratory (INL), Idaho Falls, ID (United States)

Description

A number of reports have identified four volatile radionuclides that arise from the reprocessing of nuclear fuel (3H, 14C, 85Kr, and 129I) that require controls limiting their environmental release from reprocessing facilities in order to meet US regulatory requirements. Of these, 129I has the longest half-life and highest potential biological impact.
