Fire and pyrolysis behavior of NPP-type cables in the containment in case of severe accidents

  • 1. AREVA NP GmbH, Erlangen (Germany)

Description

The report describes investigations and experiments on the pyrolysis and fire behavior of cables in the containment. The measuring instrumentation allowed a time resolved analysis of the generation of air-borne fire and pyrolysis products of cables. The fire-produced gases (CO2, CH4) and the oxygen consumption are continuously measured with appropriate time resolution. The amount of condensable and non-condensable aerosols is dependent of the cable type and the experimental conditions. These results may help to refine the fire modeling in containment codes like COCOSYS.
