Thermoluminescence dating of a deep-sea sediment core

  • 1. Simon Fraser Univ., Burnaby, British Columbia (Canada). Dept. of Physics

Description

A method of estimating the date of deposition of ocean sediments by thermoluminescence(TL) dating is described. Experimental evidence is presented showing that exposure to sunlight is a viable mechanism for setting the natural thermoluminescence to near zero. Results are presented showing that TL dates obtained for an ocean sediment core are in agreement with dates obtained independently. (UK)
